“Even now and in older times, when sickness comes people assume it is caused because of sin. In Jesus’s story, a man who was born blind was taken to him. The question of whether he sinned or his parents did was crucial. People still continue to blame sin for every misfortune. According to Jesus, neither he nor his parents sinned. He was simply born blind so that God’s work can be glorified. So when Happiness Home was started, people assumed HIV AIDS was because of drugs or sexual infidelity which is unholy. This hurt people living with HIV (PLHIV). So what we teach at Happiness Home is, as Jesus says, neither PLHIV nor their parents sinned, it is rather a glorification of God’s work. HIV may be a misfortune, but it brings us spiritually closer to God.”—Rama
